Today is a special day. Today is Evelyn’s Aunt Jennie’s birthday.
Evelyn’s Aunt Jennie is one of a few strong women I hope that Evie looks up to and admires. She will have a great deal to learn from Jennie – most of all a strong, fighter’s spirit. Aunt Jennie has had a tough year, but she has not backed down or given in to any challenge.
Jennie has battled the gigantic challenge of being diagnosed with breast cancer at the beginning of May. Being proactive and not letting her diagnosis deter her, she decided to have a double mastectomy at the end of the month, to nip the problem in the bud. Without hesitation, she took control of the situation and did what needed to be done.
In the month of May, Jennie was diagnosed and knocked out what is undboubtedly one of the toughest challenges she has ever faced. I hope that Evelyn has even a fraction of the courage and determination her Aunt Jennie does. If so, she will be strong and beautiful little lady.
Back in June, when Jessica and I found out the great news of her being pregnant, I felt this was the icing on the cake to Jennie’s diagnosis and successful surgery. To share the news with Jennie I wanted to do so in a special way. I wrote a letter in a card for her. I wanted to share this on her special day. Happy Birthday Jennie. I (Jeremy), Jessica, and Evelyn love you very much and hope you have a great day and coming year!!
Jennie,
The past few months for you has without a shadow of a doubt been a whirlwind of complete chaos. From diagnoses to tests, pokes and prods, procedures and surgeries. You have been through a great deal. You entered a long dark tunnel, and are stepping out into the light on the other end. With you every step of the way has been your family and friends. Because you are loved.
May has come and gone in a flash. With it, went the bad news, the heartaches, breakdowns, and perilous feelings that no doubt lingered in the back (and front) of your mind each waking day. With the complete gauntlet of challenges and emotions you experienced in May, you didn’t give in or give up. Because you are strong.
With all of that gone, comes the month of June. June, as you said, would be better. June brings results. June bring comfort. June bring solace in knowing that you were challenged, you met that challenge head on, and no one could say you did not stand your ground like a champ. Because you are a fighter.
As June brings the good news everyone hoped and prayed for, your recovery begins. You have begun this process and are off to a great start. For me, I need you to do one gigantic favor, please. Make sure to continue with the same ferocity and determination, because it means the world to me. To see you strong-willed, determined, and not willing to let any obstacle stand in your way. Because you are all of these things.
I ask this of you because I have many things I want to see in this world, and many things I want to learn. And, most of all, because you are my Aunt Jennie, and I want to be able to share those experiences you.
I can’t wait to meet you.
Already loving,
Baby Graham
