Evelyn’s New Whip

whip (hwip, wip) n –
A whip has simply come to represent a car. It has been said that it was used a long time ago when a whip would be used to steer the horse-drawn carriages.

At the beginning of the year, pre-ohmygoshwearehavingababy, Jessica and I had discussed the potential of getting her a new car. This would be the year to do so. Both our vehicles were paid off, hers gave us a good run, and the little issues it was having were turning into slightly bigger ones. Having a baby changes everything and this was no different.

A silver chariot that had its fair share of laps around Nashville and beyond. We put a lot of miles on Jessica’s Equinox and it served us well for many years. But, thinking ahead, would this be the vehicle to ferry our baby to and from destination A to destination B? No, she AND mommy need a ride that will start without question with every turn of the ignition. So, the search began.

Do we go the mini-van route? Jessica said, “no way! I’m no soccer mom.” “There’s nothing wrong with a van, as a matter of fact, there are some really cool vans out there,” I said. She agreed, but that’s not her style. We went through several different models that we liked and thought would work well.

One day, walking out of Target, I spotted a Fiat 500L. I commented that we should look into those. I have a fascination for British taxis, and the 500L reminds me of those. We started reviewing them and Jessica quickly fell in love. She started searching and it wasn’t long before she found her car. “We need to go to Birmingham!” I looked at my phone reading this text message, wondering why in the world we would need to make a road trip.

She found a car, and this was the one! After reviewing more, we found out  we could transfer the car up here, no road trip needed. So, we made it happen. Ship that car to Nashville!!

imageWe waited (im)patiently for the transfer to happen. Finally, it was here, now let’s go sign some paperwork! 200 signatures later, one vehicle traded in, and we are driving off the lot. We are the proud new owners of a Fiat 500L.

Evelyn has a great ride when she gets here. Lots of room, panoramic sunroof, and a great sound system. It also gets great gas mileage, has a back-up camera, Bluetooth connectivity, and navigation system. She won’t understand most of those, but as we cruise down the street listening to Rockabye Baby in our grocery-getter, we will be riding in style. Until she gets here, mommy and daddy are going to enjoy the new wheels!
